So far the Conflicker computer virus has had more bark than bite, though experts say it is still a threat.

Multimedia Watch The Video The virus was scheduled to erupt on as many as 12 million computers around the world on April 1st, but things have been very quiet so far. It was feared that the virus could take control of computers using the Microsoft Windows operating system and might steal personal information, but experts say it has had difficult communicating with its creators.

Ken Wardinsky, the Chief Technology Officer for the MSU Great Falls College of Technology says a Microsoft security patch has helped protect computers from the virus, but it still could be a threat.

"Basically for now people are just kind of waiting to see what has happened,” said Wardinsky. “They suspect that the inventors of the worm are basically waiting for the hype to die down and then they'll trigger it to use it for something. But until that happens we don't really know what is going to happen."

If your concerned that your computer may have the virus, one tell-tale sign is that it blocks access to Microsoft’s website as well as those of many antivirus companies.
